Dissertation Checklist

  • Check Graduate School Academic Calendar for dates and deadlines.

    Graduate School Academic Calendar

  • File for Graduation on Bearweb (Usually in the first month of the semester)

  • Prepare and format your Thesis/Dissertation. Consult with Graduate School for Dissertation and Thesis Formatting Guidelines. 

    Dissertation & Thesis Overview

    Inclusion of Previously Published Manuscripts

    A preliminary technical review of your dissertation must take place 14 days before your defense.

  • Email date, dissertation title, committee members (Please provide full names of your outside department committee members), room number, publications and time to the Graduate Program Coordinator 2 weeks before your intended defense date to submit the announcement of the oral exam with the graduate school. (Emily_Jessup@baylor.edu)

    To book a room please contact the Graduate Program Coordinator.

  • If you need a letter for your new employer stating that you have met all requirements. Letter of Completion

  • Send your completed dissertation to your committee members a week before your defense date. 

  • Presentation of Oral Exam.

  • Collect assessments from Committee members and send them to Graduate Program Coordinator for submission of the Record of Oral Examination.

    Collect Committee members' signatures and submit them to the Graduate School (this is easier to collect immediately following your defense). Collect your PI's signature last once your edits are complete.

  • Submit the final copy of the dissertation to the Graduate School. This is due 10 days after your defense.

    Provide the Graduate Program Coordinator with a copy so that the department can print and bind a copy for you along with a forwarding address and a personal email address to contact you. 

  • Inform the Graduate Program Coordinator of your last day in the department

  • Lab check out with Dr. Karen Humphries in EHS.

  • Turn your keys into the key shop.

  • If you are planning on participating in the Commencement Ceremonies please check the Graduate School Academic Calendar for dates on purchasing and/or renting regalia.
